[00:00:10.74] Six telescope images of distant galaxies, each showing redshift values. text: New Insight Into Little Red Dots. August 21, 2026. New research is providing insights into the puzzling "little red dots" that NASA's James Webb Space Telescope discovered in the very early universe.
[00:00:29.47] The extremely compact infrared-light sources had never been seen before, and while Webb revealed many in the early universe, their numbers decline rapidly as the universe matures.
[00:00:39.99] A deep space image shows numerous distant galaxies. Text: One galaxy observed in the later, more mature universe is giving astronomers clues as to what may become of the little red dots over cosmic time.
[00:00:53.60] We pan across the galaxy. A galaxy is highlighted. Text: Nicknamed "Saguaro," this galaxy has a very red, dusty core like a little red dot, but also distinct galaxy arms.
[00:01:08.04] Astronomers looked at Saguaro in multiple types of light: ultraviolet with the Hubble Space Telescope, infrared with Webb, and X-rays with the Chandra X-ray Observatory.
[00:01:21.21] Together the telescopes, plus computer models, point to the Saguaro galaxy being a more recent example of a little red dot.
